SUPER-8-EKOTRONIC
IF YOU CAN DO IT LIVE, YOU CAN DO IT WITH US Employing the idea that putting a microphone in front of your amp/kit/mouth and pressing record is enough and processing after the big red button has been pressed is for wastrels, usually Metallers with more money than sense (I've never heard a drum kit sound like that). I know this may sound completely insane to some but thats how people used to record and I like it. The Audio-Industrial complex is the third most powerful entity on planet earth after the Amish and Lidl, they sell us stuff we don't need, we've been led to believe that our artistry can be improved by buying "stuff", and have convinced some that their music is lacking because you didn't buy the latest digital nerval grunge pump or whatever. Well here at Super-8-Ekotonic we (I) say pish and poop to that, the most important stage in the recording process is the very first one, the one were you write the song, if thats no good then no amount of processing and polishing can save you. Bearing this in mind we (I) can always blame you for writing a shit song when you eventually try and blame us (me) for fucking up your album. THINGS YOU ARE LIKELY TO HEAR AT SUPER-8-EKOTRONIC 1 "who the fuck do you think you are, Phil Collins?" THINGS YOU WILL NOT HEAR AT SUPER-8-EKOTRONIC 1 "First, lets all go into the meditation garden to centre ourselves" EQUIPMENT LIST ******The most important thing is the Tascam 688, its a cassette based portastudio and by portastudio I mean two burly bricklayers can lift it. This thing was made back in the 80's and was and still is considered the best cassette portastudio ever made. ******A load of mics, Sm58s' and 57s', an old Technics condenser and a couple of cheap condensers' . I'd love to buy a load of old classic mics but can't so I use the best I can afford, which are shit. But I find that the Shures' are a general cure all, if they were good enough for Chess records and Willie Dixon they're good enough for me. ******For mastering I use an Apple Mac running Cubase and T-racks Here at Super-8-Ekotronic we (I) can give you a Trashy, lo-fi, dirty recording, but broadcast quality (but who the fuck would broadcast you, right?) I'm not going to give you something you can't use, if your the right sort of band for us we're (I'm) right for you. But please bear in mind the limitations of the technology, Re: point 8 above. Also, I can come to you, the joys of the portastudio and two burly brickies. PRICING Most of the bands I get to hear could do with a bit of dirt in their music, trying to achieve that polished studio sound is not the right thing for everyone, and your not going to get it on a £200 a day budget anyway. Its time to face reality kids, most of you are never gonna get to play on the Ready Steady Go! or whatever you kids listen to nowadays, so fuck it I say, come down here a roll around in the dirt with us pigs for a while, its warm and fuzzy and who knows you may have so fun. Remember this, I've been fucking up my career for 10 years so you don't have to. Take it easy you dogs Andy |

Mail Out number 11 (if you want to be put on the mailing list get in touch through the contacts page) Hi Everybody First of all, the wonderful Rusty Springfield album - "Please don't dance whilst holding drinks" is now due to be released in March, the delays were due to extreme incompetence on my part and completely avoidable, I've suitably chastised myself and awarded myself a demerit, one more and I'm out the fucking door. The album is available now through the website www.motorsoundsrecords.com where you can pick up a free mp3 from the record, and available in the shops from March. ******************Next up, we've booked a few Irish gigs for THE BONNEVILLES & [D-66], its a real double wammy, both Punk Blues luminaries (I don't even know what that word means) are rightly delighted at getting to play a few dates together, The Bonnevilles are using the dates to launch their debut album "Good Suits and Fighting Boots" and it will be [D-66]s' first time playing in Ireland, so if you want to have a uniquely sleazy experience, you should try and get to one of these gigs. ************** Also as I've mentioned already, The Bonnevilles are due to release the old debut on Motor Sounds Records in April, titled "Good Suits and Fighting Boots" various gigs, tours, shows and what have you will be arranged to hawk the damn thing to try and make some money back and who knows, maybe we'll pull ourselves off the bottom of the top 50 list "HOW TO RUN A RECORD LABEL INTO THE GROUND". I believe we're currently vying for 50th position with the bloke that signed Sigue Sigue Sputnik and the fella who said Rock n Roll wouldn't last when turning down The Beatles. Come on kids with your help we can regain a sliver of dignity, unlikely, but try we must. *************Chris Jacks, the genius that is The Routes is working on a new material and should see something for us all to enjoy later on in the year as is Craig Campbell of Rock n Roll Monkey and the Robots, both will hopefully be putting something out on Motor Sounds Records, so stay tuned for that. Thats all the news for now kids. I hope you can make it to a few shows and buy lots and lots of our records. Stay in touch and be cool |

The Bonnevilles (N.I) & D-66 (London) Double Header The Bonnevilles, Garage PunkBlues Duo are releasing their debut album "Good Suits and Fightin' Boots"(after the Hardtale Lurgan Blues EP sold out in 4 months) on Motor Sounds Records April 2008 and are embarking on a few dates in Ireland with D-66 one man PunkBlues band from London. Both these outfits are at the top of their game and reinventing the blues in their own inimitable styles, this isn't safe and if you expect to hear some of the "Same Old Blues Crap" you won't find it here. Between them they have toured the UK, Ireland and Europe and played in some of the best and coolest club nights around, including Artrocker (London) The Dirty Water (London), Gypsy Hotel (Ireland and England), Psychotic Reaction (Dublin), The Spitz(London), Not The Same Old Blues Crap (London) Beatnik Soul (Derry) Stomping Ground (Dublin) and many others. THE BONNEVILLES "C'mon" climaxed the set, a modern Ghost Dance conjuring up the spirits of long-dead bluesmen..Elmore James, Robert Johnston and Son House, all taken by the Hellhound in return for a lasting legacy, and no doubt nodding approval at this 21st century interpretation of their vision, still true, but pushing it a little further down the road. Andy's slide guitar slowly drags along, creating an authentic delta sludge, the vocal calling out from another age. The feet just won't keep still under this assault, where riff follows riff in huge sonic waves. Just one cover, "Baby Please Don't Go", which remarkably pales alongside the band's original material. I really can't wait to hear them again. D-66 With incessant bass drum and snare (courtesy of a tamborine around the heel and stomp on a baking tray),grizzled looking, sounding and - presumably -smelling like a one-man-blooze-show , [D-66] starts off like the white stripes , if jack got bored with carrying meg and decided to replace her with his shoes. with his tom waits growl [D-66] delivers rasping blues good enough to make you question weather it really is a spent force ,before pummelling into frenzied psycho-billy. after a while someone joins him onstage to control a primitive sounding drum-machine for a quasi-industrial noise out, all the more effective for it's juxtaposition with the organic solo act and at least 50 x better than The Kills…. ARTROCKER MAGAZINE We need to fill the following date and only need £............ per gig (in total for both bands) including expenses, digs would be appreciated if possible (a floor to lay out weary heads on would be fine) if not possible no worries.
We promise a unique show, it wouldn't be boastful to say, the like of which was never before seen in Ireland. If you can book any of the dates get in touch ASAP and if you know anyone who can put another date please do pass this Doc. on to them. Cheers |

THE ROUTES On a happy note we would like to welcome Masaji Hirano as our new drummer. His live debut will be The Nervous Wreck Munsters Void single release party on 22nd December, Decadent Deluxe, Fukuoka. Chris Jacks, of The Routes fame, is also plying his trade as a one man band these days, he's got a load of gigs booked with himself his right foot and his left foot 24th November 2007, Tropicoco Cafe, Nakatsu, Oita Japan Expect new material, some Facials tunes, and some Routes, if you can make any I'd urge you to do so, I heard the rehearsal tapes and they're right outta the top drawer, there's only one Chris Jacks. We will also be releasing some of his one man band material on our legendary limited edition series, some time in 2008. So make sure you grab one of those when the time comes. |

EVEL KNIEVEL R.I.P. Evel Knievel, bank robber and daredevil, one of my few childhood heros died today the 30th of November of Liver failure. (for more about the bank robbing bit, read a biography) When I was a wee kid I had three heros, Muhammad Ali, Bruce Lee and Evel Knievel. I had a huge Evel poster on my wall and let me tell you in war torn Northern Ireland, American daredevil posters are not easy to come by (thanks Aunt Jackie) When I left Northern Ireland at 16 to make my own way in life I became a bit of a daredevil myself, there was pretty much nothing I wouldn't jump off, be it cliffs into the sea or jumps off mountains on mountain bikes. I had no regard for my own safety, broke many bones and escaped certain death by luck rather than skill, and often thought of Evel as I lay in a bloodied heap, until I had a real biggy and was genuinely lucky to not die, I never got my guts back from that one....Evel would have, in fucking spades. He knew he had zero to no chance of making most of those stupid fucking jumps, but did it anyway, some say its stupid I disagree, its the what if? maybe I can, how the fuck else is a hick from Butte Montana going too make name for himself. In the end his injuries got him, but that will be said of us all, some people thought him a fool, not me, he was a living God. His manager said "It's been coming for years, but you just don't expect it. Superman just doesn't die, right?" He said "No king or prince has lived a better life," Evel Knievel, Rest In Peace from an 8 year old kid in Northern Ireland. P.S. Oh and I haven't robbed a bank....yet...but I will, and when I do I know Evel will be with me. |
